Description

Used in conjunction with Open Hearth Furnaces, as well as in municipal service, these gas producers were used well into the 1970’s and 1980’s.  This unit is a design from the early 1920’s and would fit right in up into a 1960’s era layout, as not much changed in the design of the units in that timeframe.  These units consume low grade coal completely, and do not produce coke, but rather ash.  The ash was collected either in a pit under the building, or sent by conveyor or lorry car to be dumped into a pile.  Typically run in pairs, with the most common arrangement in a group of 6.  Intake gas pipe size is 5/32, and flue pipe connection is made to a 1/2″ PVC pipe. HO scale, S and O upon request.

Make sure to order a W-S-M High Temperature Valve as well, and select Valve Open or Valve Closed. If you’re building 4 or more of these, be sure to order at least one closed, and model a unit that’s not in service.
